The Renewed Promise of P-20 Councils

P-20 councils seek to align expectations across early childhood, K-12, postsecondary education, and workforce systems with the goal of driving meaningful improvements for students and their families. However, after encountering an array of challenges, many state councils have gone dormant. Does this mean that the value of P-20 councils has run its course?

Based on our work with leaders in Kentucky, Minnesota, and North Carolina, a new ESG policy brief lays out how new approaches to P-20 structures can revitalize their potential and cultivate buy-in amongst a diverse constituency of education stakeholders for positive momentum. These new approaches to P-20 collaboration are particularly important for state leaders to consider as they continue to develop and scale strategies that support pandemic recovery, enhance student achievement, and ensure long-term economic mobility for our nation’s youth.
