Michael Deuser, Ed.L.D.

Director

Michael Deuser joined ESG in 2021 to support ESG’s postsecondary transitions work. A seasoned leader dedicated to building educational systems that drive increased postsecondary attainment and upward mobility, Dr. Deuser leads ESG’s work around data analytics and use, educational value, and strategic advising.

Prior to joining ESG, Dr. Deuser was the Chief of College and Career Success for Chicago Public Schools (CPS), where he led departments overseeing school counseling and postsecondary advising, dual credit and dual enrollment, career and technical education (CTE), work-based learning, competency-based education, and social-emotional learning for America’s third-largest school district. He also served as a Senior Fellow at JFF (Jobs for the Future), where he helped K-12 districts, colleges, and employers nationwide collaborate to create career-aligned education pathways.

In prior roles, Michael led CPS’ department of student assessment, directed data strategy and continuous improvement efforts for CPS high schools, and served as Director of Research and Performance Management at the Academy for Urban School Leadership (AUSL), a Chicago-based school management and teacher development organization.

Michael holds a B.A. in English from Stanford University, a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Chicago, and a doctorate in education leadership from Harvard University.
