The State of Mathematics Pathways for Student Success
The right math at the right time can transform a student’s future.
As in-demand skills shift and evolve at an unprecedented pace, our education system—and the mathematics pathways available to students—must evolve too. Students are best served by math pathways that are relevant to their programs of study and future careers. Traditional calculus sequences still have value; and, increasingly, so do other options like statistics or quantitative reasoning.
This report from ESG and the Charles A. Dana Center at The University of Texas at Austin examines the current state of math pathways across the country and explores how states are expanding these pathways to boost college completion, workforce readiness, and economic mobility. It outlines nine key policies and practices that states should prioritize to effectively implement high-quality math pathways.
